That was a crazy whirlwind the last week! For our traditional Thanksgiving dinner, we had:
- Tofurkey
- Quorn Turk'y roast
- homemade mashed potatoes
- homemade stuffing
- acorn squash
- butternut squash
- buscuits
- homemade vegan gravy
- cranberry sauce
- pumpkin pie
- pumpkin spice cake
Not to forget the beverages which were (sadly) non-alcoholic out of respect for my Mormon mother visiting which included organic sparkling apple juice and fresh pressed unfiltered apple cider.
I guess it's not a Thanksgiving without some kind of American dysfunctional family issues being resurfaced... my son, Little A, was disturbed as he was falling asleep for a much-needed nap by a family member who INSISTED that it was the time to bundle him up and take him for a stroll around our neighborhood. Without letting us know that's what she was about to do- she just walked into his room, plucked him out of his crib, and began bundling him up. He was SCREAMING. While she's a close family relative- she's still a stranger to him since she lives so far away. Me and Mr. T were very upset- it was extremely selfish and uncalled for since that was early in her visit and there was still time left to take a walk in the 3 days she had left to visit. Lil' A ended up staying awake from 2PM until his bedtime at 8PM- he's used to sleeping every 90 minutes.
Even though he was sleepy, Lil' A had a GREAT Thanksgiving! He loved the mashed potatoes and the butternut squash the most. The stuffing was pretty tasty to him too! He's such a good little boy. I'm continually in awe of his wonderful easy-going personality.I don't know of many other 9 1/2 month old kids that will stay awake for 6 hours and still be smiling, playing, and happy until bedtime.
Now I'm starting to get some Chanukkah and Christmas recipes. And I'm getting VERY excited!!! My own religious holiday, Yule, is coming up in less than a month! I'm SHOCKED at how quickly this year has gone! It hasn't started snowing yet, but we're supposed to get some snow and rain in a week.
So far, I'm planning on making my own chocolate covered pretzels and other treats (possibly fudge or chocolate dipped shortbread cookies?) and boxing them all up prettily to be given as gifts. I'm a fan of gifting treats- it's pretty universal that they will be well received!
